Josh Jacobs battery victim makes dramatic plea to court regarding alleged attack video

The woman who Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs battered earlier this year asked a judge on Tuesday to permanently prohibit the release of any video that depicts the attack.

The woman, identified as “ANM,” claimed in a Brown County, Wis. court filing that if the public were allowed to obtain the alleged footage of the violent incident that occurred at Jacobs’ home, it could put her “privacy, dignity and safety” at risk.

“Unless restrained,” ANM’s filing stated, “Hobart-Lawrence Police Department may disclose records or information in a manner that irreparably compromises Petitioner’s privacy and safety. Once sensitive information is released publicly, the resulting harm cannot be fully remedied.”

A judge has not yet made a ruling on ANM’s motion to seal the evidence in the case against Jacobs, though one did grant a temporary injunction on the matter on Sept. 10.

Jacobs was charged on Aug. 27 with one count of battery and one count of criminal damage to property after authorities claimed he roughed up ANM and broke her phone during a heated dispute on May 23.

Law enforcement wrote in a criminal complaint that they obtained surveillance video that showed Jacobs involved in an altercation with the woman “in the garage.” They also claimed Jacobs could be seen in further footage taking the woman’s “phone while she was on the floor of the garage” before returning and damaging it.

The purported video had been expected to become available to the public via police records requests after Jacobs pleaded no contest on Sept. 10 to the charges.

“Together with the law office of Raff Law, LLC, our office filed a motion to seal this morning on behalf of our client, ANM, in the matter of State of Wisconsin v. Joshua Cordell Jacobs,” ANM’s attorneys said in a statement to the California Post on Tuesday. “The motion is consistent with our client’s desire to protect her privacy, particularly in light of Mr. Jacobs taking responsibility for his actions in the criminal proceeding. We have no further comment at this time.”

Jacobs, who said after reaching his plea deal with prosecutors that he’s taking “full responsibility” for his actions, has not practiced or played for the Packers since the charges were filed. The NFL said in a statement last week he will remain out as it continues its probe into the case.
