Kevin Durant shockingly ignores Lionel Messi, Argentina soccer team at Fanatics Fest

Former Warriors two-time NBA Finals MVP Kevin Durant had an awkward moment during Friday’s Fanatics Fest in New York.

Durant appeared on stage for a Q&A session with the Argentina soccer team and walked past the entire squad, including superstar Lionel Messi, and former Patriots great Tom Brady.

After Brady finished asking Messi his question, Durant was the next guest to appear on the stage.

Durant came out on the stage with a smirk on his face. He walked behind the Argentina team and was handed the microphone by Brady. He then said hello to the other guests on the stage, including comedian Kevin Hart and Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente.

Once Durant received the microphone, he said, “I got a question for [Emi Martínez] right here,” Durant said, leaving Martínez pointing at himself and appearing shocked.

Durant went on to say, “Yes, you,” while looking toward Martínez.

After Durant startled him, he asked, “What would it mean for your country and team to win back-to-back World Cups?”

“That’s the toughest question that someone has asked me. You know, I’m obviously proud to be in the 2022 World Cup Final. You know, what it mean to my country, to reach there, and once we won it, we experience Argentina like I’ve never seen before,” Martinez said.

“The fans, they were absolutely crazy, different to other countries,” he continued, adding that, “it means a lot” to see the Argentinian fans celebrating at 2 AM.

Martinez added that he had, “pride for my country,” adding that the coaches and players, “work incredibly hard every single day to try to bring happiness to my country.”

“We’re gonna give absolutely our best, with Lio, with the team that we have, to bring back two World Cups into my country and celebrate with my people,” he concluded.

The Q&A session between Argentina and Spain came days before they face off in the World Cup final on Sunday in New Jersey.

Argentina is looking to become the first team to win back-to-back tournaments since Brazil did it in 1958 in Sweden and in 1962 in Chile.

Spain, however, is looking to win its first World Cup under de la Fuente’s guidance as head coach, and it would be its first time winning the tournament since 2010.
