It’s the Subway Series finale at Yankee Stadium amid the 25th-anniversary weekend of 9/11.

Cam Schlittler is slated to start.

One year ago, that sentence didn’t mean anything, but now as the favorite to win the AL Cy Young priced at -1400 odds, the Mets are pitted in a wild goose chase.

Schlittler took command of the race after dazzling with seven innings of shutout baseball while striking out 10 Rockies earlier this week and raising himself to Statcast’s 96th percentile in strikeout rate.

It was his fourth double-digit strikeout start of 2026.

Over Schlittler’s last nine starts, he has allowed more than one run just once.

Mets vs. Yankees prediction, best bet

In fact, it wouldn’t be farcical to say he’s strung together arguably the best season ever as a Yankees starter.

Schlittler has been a major reason the Yankees have kept things close with the Rays in the AL East as Aaron Judge spent months recovering

The Bombers are priced as expensive as -190 on the moneyline with Schlittler facing Christian Scott (4-4, 3.81 ERA).

As of this writing, the Mets are eighth overall in strikeouts.

Schlittler handled them with nine trips back to the dugout in 6 ⅔ innings on May 15, earning a 5-2 victory.

Of the Mets’ many issues this year, their offense has been primarily inhibited by a severe lack of power and an inability to hit fastballs.

Schlittler’s blistering four-seamer has been one of the game’s most consistent offerings: he’s averaging 98 mph (sheesh!), drawing whiffs at a 35 percent clip and putting hitters away with it at 27 percent — a significantly higher mark than any of his other four pitches.

Between his fastball, cutter and sinker, Schlittler has thrown the trio on 89.4 percent of his pitches and no one can crack the formula.

The Mets rank No. 22 overall in raw strikeout total against those three pitches, per Statcast.

Their season being long gone doesn’t play a role in the Yankees’ preparation for the postseason, Schlittler’s exclamation point on a masterful season or the meaning behind an especially emotional Subway Series.
