Moment Israeli flag-waving fan ejected from World Cup game — as Palestinian flag allowed to stay

A video circulating on social media from the Iran-New Zealand World Cup match at SoFi Stadium has sparked debate after security personnel confronted a fan displaying an Israeli flag in the stands.

The footage shows a man draped in an Israeli flag filming himself as he argues with multiple security staff members.

Throughout the exchange, the fan questions why Palestinian flags visible throughout the stadium appeared to be allowed — while security was asking him to remove or conceal his Israeli flag.

The fan repeatedly accused officials of applying a double standard and characterized the situation as antisemitic.

Security personnel, however, largely avoided engaging in the political aspects of the dispute and instead emphasized that they were enforcing FIFA policies.

As the conversation continued, one security official appeared to clarify that only flags representing the teams participating in the match would be permitted inside the venue.

The explanation suggested the issue was tied to event rules rather than the specific content of the Israeli flag itself, but didn’t address why the Palestinian flag-holders were not subject to the same confiscation.

FIFA has not publicly commented on the incident.
