Orel Hershiser hilariously trolls Mike Scioscia: ‘Don’t get them booing at me’

When Mike Scioscia agreed to attend former Dodgers teammate Orel Hershiser’s ceremony for his new car dealership in Chino, he didn’t expect to get booed.

Standing next to Hershiser during the ceremony, the speaker at the podium mentioned how their district is “most of Orange County and represents the Angels.”

Immediately after the speaker said that, Dodgers fans who attended started booing him. Hershiser jokingly walked off the stage in disappointment, leaving Scioscia awkwardly standing on stage.

As the speaker acknowledged the boos and said, “It’s hard to root for the Angels when you’re an LA native, though,” Hershiser came back to the podium and continued to egg on the joke by pointing over at Scioscia. “Don’t get them booing at me,” said Scioscia, leaving the crowd laughing.

After the laughs, Hershiser wasn’t done quite yet. He removed his World Series ring and showed it to Scioscia, which was followed by an elbow bump. Scioscia, who was part of the Dodgers’ 1988 World Series-winning team with Hershiser, took a moment to admire the pitcher’s ring.

Besides his 13-year playing career in which he won two World Series with the Dodgers (1981 and ’88) as a catcher, Scioscia was the Angels manager from 2000-2018.

During that stretch, he became a franchise legend with the Angels.

Scioscia, a two-time Manager of the Year, became the organization’s all-time winningest manager with a 1,650-1,428 record and helped the club win its only World Series in 2002.

After the event ended, Hershiser spoke about the exchange with his former batterymate.

“Well, what was funny with Scioscia was, the one guy was saying he was from the dark side, the enemy side, and he was an Angel fan,” Hershiser said. “So I said, ‘We’ve got the world champion Angel manager right here.’ And Scioscia was like, ‘Don’t make them boo me.’ “
