Phil Simms offers advice to Jaxson Dart as drama swirls about off-field decisions

Phil Simms had some words of wisdom for Jaxson Dart.

Dart has been through a lot off the field in the past two weeks, beginning with his recent appearance at a rally for President Donald Trump, where he introduced the commander in chief to supporters at Rockland Community College.

Then on Wednesday, the Giants quarterback and linebacker Brian Burns took a trip down to San Antonio to watch the Knicks win Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

Simms, the two-time Super Bowl champion Giants QB, appeared on the “Up & Adams” with Kay Adams on Thursday, saying how he believes Dart should handle the offseason.

“I would not want him to go [to San Antonio],” Simms said about the signal-caller’s trip to San Antonio. “I just think Jackson Dart what he has gone through with the president and all that. Just you know, calm it down. If you are out there too much, in my opinion, when anything goes wrong at all, that’s what they’re going to jump on.”

The Giants players made it back to OTAs on time after the Knicks’ Game 1 win, but even with that knowledge, Simms insisted that if he pulled that while he was playing, it would have severe repercussions.

If I had gotten in that and went down there in a private plane to watch the Knicks play. Simms explained. “Oh my gosh. I would have brought to the principal’s office the next day, and the question would be ‘what the hell are you doing.’”

Even though Simms is opposed to Dart’s off-field decisions, he still believes Dart has a lot of talent on the field.

“Every day that went on, I went ‘oh wow, I underestimated his talents’ in both things; throwing the football and the size in the running ability,” Simms said. “So Jaxson Dart can be a superstar; there is no doubt about it. He has superstar qualities and talent.”

Dart now has a new head coach in John Harbaugh and an offensive coordinator, Matt Nagy, whose job it will be to shape the young quarterback into a star.

He has received an influx of talent in the receiver department.

The Giants signed three new receivers on Monday, bringing back Odell Beckham Jr and adding Braxton Berrios and JuJu Smith-Schuster. They also brought over former Ravens tight end Isaiah Likely.

The only question mark on offense is whether Malik Nabers will be back at the start of the season, and there’s still no real answer.
