The Raiders are down a safety in training camp.
Lonnie Johnson Jr., who appeared locked into a training camp battle with Jamal Adams for a starting role with Las Vegas, collided with stud defensive end Maxx Crosby and broke his fibula on Saturday, according to ESPN.
The injury will end Johnson’s season before it began.

Johnson Jr., 29, was attempting to tackle running back Raheem Mostert on the play, but the collision with Crosby forced him to be carted off in a scary scene.
The former second-round pick by the Texans in 2019 has bounced around the league, playing three seasons in Houston before playing a season each with the Titans, Saints and Panthers.
Johnson Jr. said in a video posted last week on the team’s official website that he “just wanted an opportunity to show what I can do” with his new team.
After the injury, he had fun with the unfortunate incident.
“I wonder if I can get a handicap sticker now,” Johnson said with laughing emojis.

The Raiders are currently in the middle of a total rebuild after they hired Pete Carroll as their head coach.
Carroll should bring a steady presence to a team that also acquired former Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith in a trade.
Johnson Jr. played a reserve role in recent years, mostly appearing on special teams. He was a key contributor for bad Texans teams in 2020 and ’21.
Other safeties on the Raiders roster this year include the recently signed Adams, Jeremy Chinn and Isaiah Pola-Mao.
Johnson Jr. has just 27 total tackles in his last three seasons, where he played in 39 of a possible 52 games.
