The Los Angeles Rams’ decision to travel to Australia one day before their regular-season opener against the San Francisco 49ers has drawn a lot of scrutiny.
But nobody can deny they’re making the trip in style.
Rams star linebacker Byron Young posted a video showing off the extravagant details of the A380 plane the team traveled to Australia in to his Instagram story on Tuesday night.
“I’m feeling boujee right now,” Young said with a laugh before showing the lavish individual lie-flat seats that each Rams player had.
“Full-size, this crazy,” Young added. “Two-floor, double-decker. So boujee.”
Each suite featured a comfortable looking chair that would recline into a bed, a personal entertainment screen, and plenty of space for whatever else the players brought with them for the flight.
Both the Rams and the 49ers chartered Airbus A380 planes for their flights to Australia, and San Francisco’s roster surely had a similar setup for their journey.
The A380 plane allows for a cabin altitude of 5,000 feet compared to 8,000 on a regular passenger plane. This, combined with the plane’s high humidity and lack of sound, should have made sleeping relatively easy for the Rams to come by.
The big difference was the timing of each flight. The 49ers decided to go to Australia a week in advance in hopes of acclimating to the 17-hour time change.
The Rams, on the other hand, are arriving in Melbourne about 24 hours before their game, then intend to fly back to the United States shortly after the game ends, before any jet-lag can creep in.
There are plenty of compelling storylines for this season-opening NFC West showdown. But the different travel strategies might be the most fascinating of all.
