South Carolina grandpa’s plans for multimillion-dollar Cooper Flagg rookie card revealed

Cooper Flagg fans desperate to get their hands on his Holy Grail rookie card are now in luck.

Jason Williams, the 50-year-old grandpa from South Carolina who acquired the Dallas Mavericks star’s most-wanted relic via a box break earlier this month, has decided to put the piece up for auction.

Hobbyists can make their runs at the card through Fanatics Collect beginning on Sept. 10 — and Fanatics Collect Vice President of Marketplace Kevin Lenane told the California Post Thursday he’s beyond excited to have the sale go down on his company’s block.

“It’s one of those things that if you’re in the collecting world,” he said, “everyone’s been waiting for all year.”

Williams bought into the now-famous box break with Rhode Island-based RhodyBreakers for $515 on Aug. 10, and he said in an interview with The Post days later that he “cried like a baby” when he realized the Flagg card was his.

“It just overwhelmed me,” he said, “because I knew the magnitude of what had happened.”

Since Flagg, who averaged 21 points per game in his first season with the Mavericks, put his John Hancock on the card in July, demand for the item has been insatiable.

The Mavericks offered a massive deal for it that included 32 years of season tickets, a meet-and-greet and signed Flagg memorabilia.

A “bounty auction” on the auction platform Alt, meanwhile, reached bids of over $3 million.

The card is a true 1-of-1; it features the debut patch Flagg wore during his first NBA game and it also has his autograph. Lenane told The Post it’s also since earned a perfect PSA 10 grade on both the card and the signature.

Williams initially said he wasn’t going to rush to sell the item, but ultimately opted to put it in Fanatics Collect’s hands this week after building a relationship with the organization since he became the coveted card’s owner.

As for what it’ll ulitmately fetch, Lenane said he wasn’t allowed to speculate, but he did call it “the most exciting basketball rookie in a long, long time.”

Bidding for the card is scheduled to end on Sept. 24.
