The ingredients for the Rangers’ best-case scenario: playoff position, Alexis Lafrenière numbers, Isles reversal

The calendar just flipped to April 2027. The Rangers are in Montreal for their final road game of the regular season, a 7 p.m. matchup with the Canadiens at Bell Center.

And with four games left in the 2026-27 campaign, the Blueshirts — who snapped out of their previous two-season funk — are sitting comfortably in playoff position.

Whether that’s in a wild-card spot or at the top of the Metropolitan Division, a convincing return to the postseason would be the first step in the Rangers’ best-case scenario for this upcoming season.

Of course, Igor Shesterkin raising the Stanley Cup over his head on a float up the Canyon of Heroes is the ultimate outcome. In reality, however, simply piecing together a competitive season from start to finish would be an ideal result of the organization’s retooling initiative.
