So far in 2026, here is what the Yankees are really good at:

  • Beating the Giants.
  • Clobbering Angels closer Jordan Romano.

Here is stuff they are bad at:

  • Keeping Mike Trout in the ballpark.
  • Providing evidence there is enough quantity and quality in their bullpen.
  • Hitting lefty pitching, unless your name is Aaron Judge.

It has led to an up-and-now-down first three weeks that began with a sweep in San Francisco en route to opening 8-2. They are 2-7 since after an uninspiring four-game home split in which the Yankees produced their two wins because the Angels are using a closer (Romano) who had an 8.23 ERA last year and now 8.44 this season.

“Obviously, we are not playing up to our standards,” Max Fried said.
