The Brewers have lost many stars over money, from Corbin Burnes to Willy Adames to Freddy Peralta. And one has to wonder what their chances are to keep star catcher William Contreras beyond his walk year next year.

It doesn’t sound like they are very hopeful to lock up Contreras, who’s a great talent, calls a great game, blocks balls and is even killing the ABS game (he’s 15-for-20 since the NLCS). He had a solid regular season but looks like a different guy this October.

The Brewers in 2025 tried to extend Contreras, who’s butted heads with higher-ups and was viewed as difficult by some in Atlanta, too. The offer was said to be a three-year guaranteed deal plus an option year or two that would have taken up one guaranteed free agent year.

But Contreras’ side surely is seeking a much bigger score for the uber-talent and didn’t think that bid merited even a counteroffer.
