Woman arrested, charged for alleged ‘verbal’ abuse with anti-Semitic slurs near Bondi Beach terror attack site

A woman is set to face court accused of making anti-Semitic slurs close to the site of the Bondi Beach terror attack.

On Wednesday, police were called to Archer Park to reports of a woman confronting a group of people gathered at the site.

The incident, at around 4.30pm, allegedly happened as Jewish leaders and Sydney Swans players visited the site of the December massacre.

Following further investigations, a 67-year-old woman from Bondi was arrested and has been charged with using offensive language.

In a statement, NSW Police said the woman had been issued with a notice requiring her to attend court.

“Police will allege the woman verbally abused members of the group making anti-Semitic comments,” the statement reads.

The incident has been condemned by Alex Ryvchin, co-chief executive of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry.

“We will not allow the desecration of a sacred site.

“And we will not allow the poison of antizionism, which places targets on the backs of virtually all Jews, to be passed off as benign political commentary.

“We cannot turn antisemites into good and rational people. But we can exact consequences when they endanger our society and break the law.”

The woman will appear at Waverley Local Court on September 23.
